Agadir winter sun from the UK: your pre-flight phone checklist

Agadir is one of the easiest winter-sun escapes from the UK: a direct flight of under four hours. Here is the phone checklist to run through before you go, so your holiday isn't spent hunting for signal.

Two weeks before

• Check your phone supports eSIM. Dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, it does.
• Check it is unlocked. If it is network-locked, ask your provider; UK providers are required to unlock on request.
• Update your phone's software and your key apps while you are on home Wi‑Fi.

The week before

• Buy and install your Morocco eSIM on Wi‑Fi, and label the line "Morocco".
• Switch data roaming off on your UK line, and choose the Morocco line for mobile data.
• Download offline maps of Agadir and the route from the airport to your hotel.
• Screenshot your hotel or riad address and save your driver's or host's WhatsApp number.
• Download boarding passes and any films or podcasts for the journey.
• Back up your photos so there is space for the holiday.

On the day, at the UK airport

• Charge your phone and pack a power bank in your hand luggage.
• Keep flight mode on for the flight.
• Withdraw or change some cash if you can, because taxis at Agadir generally want dirhams.

On landing at Agadir

While you are there

• Use hotel Wi‑Fi for big downloads and uploads, and your eSIM for maps and messages.
• Check your data usage screen midweek.
• Keep your UK SIM active for text codes from banks and apps, with roaming data off.
• Use a VPN on public Wi‑Fi if you handle anything sensitive.

Coming home

• Delete the expired eSIM profile to keep your settings tidy.
• Check your UK line's roaming setting is back the way you like it.
• Keep the receipt if you need it for expenses.

When is winter-sun season?

Roughly October to April. Days in Agadir are often mild and sunny, though evenings can be cool, so pack a layer. Half-term and Christmas flights are the busiest, which makes an eSIM that is already installed even more useful.
